GCCA South Africa Hosts Panel Discussion on Insurance Challenges

The Global Cold Chain Alliance South Africa hosted a Panel Discussion on Fire Risk Insurance Challenges for Refrigerated Warehouses on 5 February 2020, in Cape Town. Seventy attendees traveled from across the country to meet with industry leaders to learn more about the challenges currently facing the refrigerated warehousing industry.

Topics included the global re-insurance market and how it impacts South Africa, the way insurers/reinsurers look at the refrigerated warehouse industry, the insulation core type / performance of insulated panels and risk from an engineering point of view. Hot topics included sprinklers as well as the minimum requirements and alternative solutions for fire risk cover. The audience was very interactive, asking questions ranging from fire-retardant polystyrene, sprinkler systems in the empty void, fire detection systems in high hazard environments and the 30-day clause on insurance contracts.
