Global Cold Chain Alliance

GCCA membership in Africa consists of 48 facilities comprising over 50,084,636 cubic feet of refrigerated space. GCCA works throughout Africa to strengthen the cold chain and maintain product integrity and quality between rural areas and more populous cities. Member services in the region range from post-harvest technical assistance to international connections for companies involved in the importing and exporting of temperature-controlled products. 

 

 

Advisory Council

The GCCA South Africa Advisory Council serves the temperature-controlled products industry to help provide objective, insightful guidance, and act as a sounding board on how to implement best practices in the region. The Advisory Council contribute their experience, influence, and understanding of the industry to improve and develop the cold chain in South Africa. Food Safety & Compliance Committee

The GCCA South Africa Food Safety & Compliance Committee provides a permanent space for discussion, study and review of the legislation and standards in force, which the warehouses are subordinated. The GCCA South Africa Risk Management Committee was created so members can discuss the standards, regulations and best practices impacting the cold chain logistics and refrigerated storage industry in South Africa and collectively build stronger relationships between industry and related government agencies. GCCA Africa Crisis Management Manual

The GCCA Risk Management committee was established in July 2021 to study and review items related to risk management in cold storage facilities at all levels of operations, with a goal of improving performance and minimizing the risk of members and the industry at large. Members of the committee in conjunction with Andrew Perks from A. Perks Enterprises worked on this manual to get it published with South African possible crises and regulations. Productivity & Benchmarking Report for Refrigerated Warehouses

GCCA’s Productivity and Benchmarking Report (PBR) has been labelled by members in the United States, Brazil, Latin America, and Europe as one of GCCA’s most valuable resources. The Productivity and Benchmarking Survey has been tailored and sent out to warehouse members in South Africa. This survey is the only performance and benchmarking data for the temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics industry in South Africa. The online benchmarking platform allows participants to compare their warehouse operations to others across the industry, evaluating their performance in valuable KPI categories such as Labour Expenses, Electricity Expenses, Inventory Turns and Product Throughput.

Cold Storage Standard Terms and Conditions

GCCA Warehouse Members can download and adapt the Standard Terms and Conditions (STCs) for storing third party products, for use in their own companies. The STCs were developed by GCCA Associate Member LHL Attorneys & Corporate Advisors in South Africa and are only available to active GCCA Warehouse Members operating within the jurisdiction of South Africa. Africa Future Leader Award

This award is organized by the Global Cold Chain Alliance and its Core Partner the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses. The Africa Future Leader Award recognizes outstanding young professionals in the African cold storage industry who show potential for future career advancement but have not yet risen to top-level leadership positions within their country.
