Resources from Cybersecurity expert, John Sileo

John Sileo is a cybersecurity expert, consultant, and speaker. Because of a cybercriminal at his company, he lost everything he had to cybercrime. The insider masked the crimes using John’s identity and John was held legally and financially responsible for the felonies committed. The losses destroyed his company, decimated his finances, and consumed two years of his life as he fought to stay out of jail. He shared his story with attendees at the 2019 IARW-WFLO Convention as the keynote speaker and also provided valuable resources below to the association’s members.

IARW-WFLO Convention Presentation: Cybersecurity & Ransomware

Too often, companies and individuals look at the prospect of a cybersecurity breach as unlikely, giving minimal attention to preventative measures and response plans. In the temperature-controlled supply chain, a cybersecurity breach has the potential to be crippling to logistics companies and even more damaging to their customers. View the presentation below, given by an IARW member who shared their recent first-hand experience with ransomware, lessons learned in the attack, and advice for other 3PLs to avoid and deal with a similar situation.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity Resources

Cyberspace and its underlying infrastructure are vulnerable to a wide range of risks stemming from both physical and cyber threats and hazards. Sophisticated cyber actors exploit vulnerabilities to steal information and money and are developing capabilities to disrupt, destroy, or threaten the delivery of essential services. Cyberspace is particularly difficult to secure due to a number of factors: the ability of malicious actors to operate from anywhere in the world, the linkages between cyberspace and physical systems, and the difficulty of reducing vulnerabilities and consequences in complex cyber networks. Of growing concern is the cyber threat to critical infrastructure, which is increasingly subject to sophisticated cyber intrusions that pose new risks. As information technology becomes increasingly integrated with physical infrastructure operations, there is increased risk for wide scale or high-consequence events that could cause harm or disrupt services.

Webinar: Protect Your Company with Cybersecurity Insurance

According to the FBI, ransomware cost US businesses at least $1.4B in 2017, compared with $1B in 2016. Are you aware that any business can be affected by a ransomware event? What would you do in the case of an attack? A key benefit to having a Cyber Insurance policy in place when a ransomware event occurs is immediate access to pre-vetted response vendors. In this recorded webinar, Service Partner Lockton Companies LLC will share what you should know about cyber insurance coverage and what you can do now to protect yourself and your company. Join Madeline Allen, J.D., ARM from 1:00 – 2:00pm to get all your cyber-security questions asked and answered!
