IARW Publishes Warehouse Administration Manual

August 11, 2010

New publication is a guide to running a successful refrigerated warehouse business

WASHINGTON, DC, August 11, 2010 – Every public refrigerated warehouse (PRW) operator needs to know the technology and operational side of cold storage logistics.

Equally important, however, is knowing how to run the business from the management and administrative side.

Now the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses (IARW) has published the IARW Warehouse Administration Manual to serve as a guide to the management and administrative side of the refrigerated warehouse business. It is intended to serve IARW Warehouse Members around the world.

Chapters in the manual address important topics such as:

  • Essential PRW Documents
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Human Resources
  • Warehouse Law, Liability, Insurance, and Risk Management
  • Information Systems
  • Safety Management
  • Government Affairs

"PRW operators must have strong skills in many areas, and management and administrative expertise is critical," explains IARW President and CEO Bill Hudson. "We have been gathering and using the information in this manual for a long time, but this is the first time we have put it together in one place to become a comprehensive resource."

The IARW Warehouse Administration Manual was developed and authored by John Horvath (Horvath & Weaver PC/IARW Warehouse Law Service Partner), Connie Phipps (Lockton Companies/IARW Insurance Program), Benjamin Milk (IARW), and Stephen Neel (IARW) with additional contributions from leading PRW industry leaders, including Michael Black (VersaCold USA), Pat Floyd (Seafreeze Cold Storage), Ken Johnson (Merchants Terminal Corporation), and Nick Pedneault (Congébec Logistics, Inc.).

IARW has also published several other manuals, including the IARW Guide to Effective Warehouse Operations, IARW Crisis Management Manual, and the IARW Maintenance and Modernization Manual. The World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO), a Core Partner of IARW, also publishes the WFLO Commodity Storage Manual.

Each IARW warehouse member facility will receive a free copy of the IARW Warehouse Administration Manual and additional copies will be available to other IARW members for $210. It will also be available online to members of IARW.
