Ask an Expert Consultation Center

The Global Cold Chain Expo is proud to provide the opportunity for participants to meet and interact with members of the WFLO Scientific Advisory Council (SAC), an eminent group of food scientists, logistics, and packaging experts from around the world led by the World Food Logistics Organization (WFLO), a Core Partner of the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA). Experts will be available during show hours at the expo for “casual conversation,” or you can schedule one-on-one private meeting time with them to dive deeper in to technical and industry topics within their areas of expertise.

The Ask an Expert Consultation Center will be located in the back of the Global Cold Chain Expo show floor connected to the Cold Chain Information booth. 

The following experts will be available for consultations at the Cold Chain Information & Consultation Center: 

Dr. Michael Jahncke

Dr. Michael Jahncke

Dr. Michael Jahncke, a Fish, Seafood & Food Science expert from Virginia Tech. Dr. Jahncke is an expert in Seafood HACCP, processing and food safety programs related to all types of seafood and fish.  He also serves as the Chairman of the GCCA SAC.
Dr. Dennis Heldman

Dr. Dennis Heldman

Dr. Dennis Heldman, a Food Process Engineering expert from The Ohio State University. Dr. Heldman has developed an innovative and useful computer modeling program that allows users to calculate the ““Time to Freeze” and/or “Time to Thaw” of a wide array of items at varying temperatures and conditions. Dr. Heldman’s expertise has saved GCCA members countless dollars by determining revised shelf life limits and holding times given variable storage conditions.
Dr. Faris Karim

Dr. Faris Karim

Dr. Faris Karim, an Ammonia Contamination and Food Toxicology expert from Kansas State University. Dr. Karim has been actively involved in several “crisis” situations where ammonia or other contaminants have come in to contact with perishable foodstuffs. Dr. Karim’s knowledge on mitigating the negative impacts of ammonia on packaging, boxing and food products has resulted in significant savings from potential loss of products after chemical exposure.
Dr. Barbara Rasco

Dr. Barbara Rasco

Dr. Barbara Rasco, a Food Safety & Food Safety Regulations expert from Washington State University. Dr. Rasco’s expertise in regulatory compliance and food safety systems, including HACCP programs, is especially relevant with the new Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and the Sanitary Transport of Food (STF) rule by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Rasco has assisted GCCA members prepare for the FSMA Preventative Controls and STF rules recently implemented by FDA.
Dr. Paul Singh

Dr. Paul Singh

Dr. Paul Singh, a Food Packaging & Labeling expert from Michigan State University. Dr. Singh has been instrumental in advising GCCA members on the various performance attributes of packaging materials under different storage conditions. Dr. Singh has also provided excellent guidance related to the impacts of ammonia and other chemicals on packaging materials and the products stored in them.
